STAYING AT MABELY GRAND HOTEL ZAKINTHOS

The Mabely offers views overlooking the Ionian sea and is my most relaxing getaway as of yet.  I was able to spend a week at Mabely Grand Hotel during my short time exploring the Greek island.

Why stay with Mabely Grand Hotel?

After searching endlessly for the perfect hotel in Zante, I could only hope to find something away from all the loud noise and partying of the holiday makers in Laganas I wanted to find the most relaxing place that was affordable. I came across this hotel and fell in love. We decided to fly with Thomson which is a first for me and Jimmi. it was excellent service from the pick-up at the airport to the lift back in a VIP van, we were treated wonderfully.

There are two pools, both with superb views of the Ionian Sea and service all day from the pool which is perfect to sit back and relax and drink cocktails. Float in the hammocks and jump in the pool when its too hot!

The hotel is located in Kambi, which is located in the mountains on the edge of the sea, It is quite isolated but its nice and peaceful, yet it’s just a 15-minute walk to Kampi’s centre.

The rooms

There is a choice of luxurious rooms, junior suites, executive suites, sharing pool suites or the presidential suite. My room was overlooking the garden, with the view of the mountains. What I loved most was the relaxing sound of the water fountain (above) sending me to sleep every night. There are two buildings, the first building is where the main hotel facilities are. The second building has the perfect sea views and you can stay in the. I preferred to stay in the main building as it was close to the reception, bar and restaurant.

Amenities and Activities

  • 2 large outdoor pools
  • 14 private and sharing pools
  • Private chapel 'St. Ypomoni'
  • Main Bar 'Noire'
  • Pool bar
  • Main seafront buffet restaurant "Lydia"
  • Agricultural Shop
  • 'Agora' centre
  • Beauty, Wellness and Fitness Centre
  • Conference and Congress Centre
  • Free private parking area
  • Baby sitting (upon request)
  • Room service
  • Cleaning service (daily)
  • Complimentary sun beds

You can book into the Spa at any time, beauty and massage treatments are not included if you are all inclusive, however you do have access to the sauna, gym and jacuzzi. I never got chance to try the facilities but I did go and have a look. It is quite small but as you book privately, it would be the perfect size

The wifi is very poor and will probably drive you crazy. You can only access it in the lobby area. It is faster through messaging but any attempt at trying to upload anything will take a million years, so we just gave up on the wifi and used it when we were out of the hotel.

Dining

My stay wouldn’t have been complete without having dinner at the Lydia restaurant, which is the perfect place to watch the sunset every night. Everything from the local wine and fresh bread. If you are all inclusive this would be a dream come true. I was half board as we wanted to be out of the hotel in the day to explore the island, with this we had breakfast and dinner included.

The drinks are quite pricey,  so if you do go half board or self catering,  just bear in mind that nearest supermarket is a 20 min walk. So if you are planning to stay at the hotel and not move on your stay, all inclusive would be ideal.
Breakfast is 07.30 - 10.30
On the buffet breakfast you will find juices, variety of freshly baked bread, croissants and cakes. Marmalades, jams, honey, cereals, yoghurts, compotes, variety of cheese and cold cuts. There was a full hot buffet, with bacon , your choice of egg, sausage, beans , potatoes, seasonal fresh fruit and Tea and coffee.
Lunch is 12.30 - 14.30 - Dinner 19.30 - 22.00

The buffet has a selection of greek and international dishes, mixed salads with a variety of dressings, hot and cold appetisers, meat and fish dishes, seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables, handmade greek deserts and ice cream

Getting around

The biggest tip i would give for this hotel is that if you do want to see more of the island then rent a car before you go. You can find great deals on all the compare sites online.  We made the mistake of renting at the hotel which is £150 for 5 days, where we could of paid £60 for 7 days online. The price is reasonable however if you want to save money and you are on a budget, plan ahead. The excursions are triple the price at the hotel but if you go to the nearest ports by car you can find all the trips at a very low price. You can also get a free shuttle bus to the local port from the hotel, which is Port Vromi. There you can pay the cheaper price when you arrive. I will post more about the island in my next post.

The hotel offers free shuttle buses to different towns and excursions, however they are always fully booked as they are only small mini buses that don't carry many people. So if you don't rent a car and you want to see as much as you can. Make sure that you book your excursions when you book in or perhaps you could arrange it with them before you arrive to guarantee you a place.

Taxis from the hotel are expensive, you are looking at minimum 30euro for a one way journey because they have to come from Zante town.

Thank you to Mabely Grand for a beautiful holiday! If you do have any more questions about the hotel, post them here. Thanks guys!
